As Minster for Housing and your local MP, I recently announced the Homes for Queenslanders Plan.
We have a plan for a fairer go for Queensland renters and to build 1 million more homes in Queensland.
Across Australia we’re seeing significant pressure on housing supply, driving up prices and making rents less affordable.
We know this is being felt particularly hard in Queensland due to our booming economy and interstate migration.
Every Queenslander deserves a place to call home, and with the Miles Government’s Homes for Queenslanders plan, we will build 1 million more homes to ensure that Queenslanders can afford to live and work in the community that they love.
We’ll also strengthen our renting laws to make sure renters have a fair go and can save to buy a home.
Homes for Queenslanders will provide direct cost of living relief for eligible renters. We will ban all types of rent bidding, establish a portable bond scheme and establish a rental sector code of conduct to crack down on dodgy and unprofessional practices.
Importantly, the Homes for Queenslanders plan also includes a funding boost for frontline homelessness services and more supported accommodation places.
This means more affordable homes and cheaper rents for Queenslanders.
It builds on our social and affordable housing program, but we know there’s more to do and I’m confident this plan will deliver the homes Queenslanders needs.
