  • Palaszczuk Government to provide funding for specialist homelessness services in Whitsunday
  • Adds to eight existing funded services in the Mackay Isaac Whitsunday region
  • Government has committed $183 million to 90 non-government organisations to deliver 194 specialist homelessness services across Queensland

The Palaszczuk Government will partner with community organisation Whitsunday Housing Company to provide additional specialist homelessness services in the Mackay Isaac Whitsunday region.

The government will allocate $660,000 to provide a mixed of mobile and outreach services including emergency accommodation and other support to people who are homeless and assisting people to sustain a tenancy.

The funding adds to the $5 million already allocated to non-government organisations in the Mackay and Isaac communities for homelessness services.

Quotes attributable to Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon:

“While we deliver more social homes in places like Cannonvale, we’re establishing a dedicated homelessness service in the Whitsundays to give people immediate support.

“Previously, people in the community who needed help had to link in with services based Mackay – no longer will they have to do that.

“Whitsunday Housing Company already does a great job in the community, and this additional funding will expand on the work they and the Department of Housing do to help locals in need.”
