Gold Coast families who are eligible for social housing have started moving into a new social housing complex in Nerang.

The site was formerly just two houses, which has been redeveloped into 10 units. 

Split over two levels, the social housing complex includes nine two-bedroom apartments and one one-bedroom unit. 

The complex also contains four ground-floor units designed specifically for older residents and people with a disability, with wider hallways and doorways, level showers and wall ovens featured across the Gold Level or Platinum Level units. 

The $3.9 million project also supported more than 12 full-time equivalent jobs during construction.

Through the Liveable Housing Design Guidelines, Gold Level provides level showers and thresholds and provision for grab rails, wider hallways and doorways with extra clearance spaces provided and also contains features such as wall ovens.

Platinum Level includes Gold Level features however provides wider hallways and doorways and additional clearance spaces, wall ovens and removable kitchen cabinets. 

These additional features make Platinum Level designed units particularly suitable for people who utilise wheelchairs.
