Major operation to stop fire ants in their tracks

A major baiting program is about to get underway aimed at stopping fire ants from becoming established on the Gold Coast. Member for Gaven Meaghan Scanlon said the bait would be distributed by helicopters and ground crews along the Brisbane-Gold Coast corridor. “We’ll be targeting those areas that are especially attractive to fire ants, such as open land with disturbed soil where housing development is underway,” Ms Scanlon said.
